History
In 1950, a local Magnolian art teacher, Ms. Marjorie Chamberlain wanted the community to be more aware of the art around them. She began the Sidewalk Art Show to give young people an opportunity to show their work. The Art Show was held around the Columbia County Courthouse lawn beneath the beautiful Magnolia trees. Ms. Chamberlain's father built easels for the adults and strung wire from tree to tree for her student’s art work to be held with cloths pins. After 69 years, the tradition still lives, with a few updates, but the charm and dream of one women is still here.
Today the Sidewalk Art Show has been renamed Magnolia Arts Annual Art Show and is held every third Saturday in May in the Magnolia Arts Center building accompanied by the Magnolia Blossom Festival and the World Championship Steak Cook off, with thousands attending the event each year.
